Clarion Chukwurah Helpline Initiative

INTRODUCTION TO C.C.I.

On September 6 1998, the versatile actress CLARION CHUKWURAH in recognition of younger people forming the larger bulk of her fans and desiring to help focus a new youth generation founded a Non Governmental Youth Motivation and Development Project tagged, REVERSING GENERATION X as part of her already existing African Dance & Drama Ensemble. RGX originally inspired by Mr. Demola Soile Balogun, a then 100 level law student of Ogun State university and Mr. Onyeka West Egbarin within a year drew a membership of about a hundred young people from various secondary schools, universities and RCCG youth wings throughout the south-western states of Nigeria. The project held symposiums, on education, parenting, vocational training and career choice selections. The project equally produced documentaries on Youth Prostitution, HIV/AIDS and youth involvement in Agriculture/Food Production in Lagos State.

CLARION CHUKWURAH INITIATIVE was formerly registered in 2007 by the Corporate Affairs Commission, Abuja as a Child Support and Youth Developmental N.G.O. Non Governmental Charity Organization. In meeting our program targets from Nigeria, to Cameroon, we partner with State Governments, Corporate Bodies and Conscientious individuals. On areas of health and education, we partner with other N.G.Os and Bodies, and, Nigerians/Carribeans in the U.S.A, U.K and CANADA. So far we have successfully carried out Child Support Programs in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, and Ondo States. We sensitize annually Nigerians living abroad in foreign programs of our work. We have successfully carried out family and community support programs in Lagos and Ondo States. Since 2009, we organize annually a Less Privileged Children/Youth Schools’ Teachers Summer Upgrade Training Program in collaboration with FAST TRAINING SERVICES, WEMBLEY, LONDON. U.K. With support from the Lagos State Ministry of Education, in 2009, eleven state owned and private schools participated. We have secured an Acre of land at Isheri Olofin, Ogun State, Nigeria as a permanent site to set-up structures for our training and support programs.

Our values:

We are compassionate and care about those around us.

We are people of our word, with the courage to do what is right.

We take the initiative and challenge the status quo to pursue new ideas.

We are thankful for any opportunity that moves us forward in our quest to achieve our set goals.

Our Vision:

To develop a new generation of Nigerians who will respect African values and take pride in the Nigerian Nation State.

To develop a new generation of de-tribalized, religious-bigotry-free, free thinking, informed democrats.

HELPLINE INITIATIVE

May 27th, 2008 will forever remain memorable in the lives of children with special needs, especially those with physical and mental challenges in Lagos. For that was the day veteran actress, CLARION CHUKWURAH gathered the –who-is-who in the Nigerian Entertainment Industry for a special charity event tagged ENTERTAINERS’ STAR TREK. The epic event, put in place by CLARION CHUKWURAH’s HELPLINE INITIATIVE, specifically to put smiles on the faces of the physically and mentally challenged children, started at Maryland, Lagos. At the staring point were top showbiz personalities like Chief (Mrs.) Christy Essien-Igbokwe, MFR, Veteran actor Emma Edokpai, award-winning DJ-cum-pop star, Jimmy Jatt, Clarion Chukwurah herself, and of course, a multitude of supporters of the project, all garbed in specially branded T-Shirts.

From Maryland, the entourage took-off and headed straight to OLUSOYE COMPENSATORY CENTRE FOR PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY CHALLENGED CHILDREN AND YOUTH WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES, Ilupeju, passing through Ikorodu Road.

At Olusoye, the team was received by the students and management of the centre led by the 83-years old founder, Mrs Hellen O. Caulcrick. Apart from presentation of gifts items, Lady of songs, Christy Essien-Igbokwe, Jimmy Jatt, made handsome cash donations while Iyalode Adunni Bakole, also donated brand new sets of clothes imported from England to the children at the centre. After treating the children to a mouthwatering delicacy from LAREDO SMALL CHOPS and BLESSED WATER, the Entertainers’ Star trek train moved to the Juvenile Welfare Centre for Abandoned and Missing Children (JWC), operated by The Nigerian Police in Idioro, Mushin. At JWC, the team also made cash donations while Clarion Chukwurah’s Helpline Initiative donated two (2) industrial fans, bags of rice, clothing and other materials.

The next port of call was Modupe Cole Home for the Physically and Mentally Handicapped, Akoka, Lagos. Apart from valuable gift items from Helpline Initiative, star actor Emeka Ike, top singer Felix Duke and kid singers D’Angel who joined the team at Modupe Cole, also added pep to the event as they interacted freely with the children at the centre. They also made donations and pledges to the Home. Receiving the donations on behalf of the Home, the principal, Mrs. F.A. Durowoju, thanked Clarion and her team for their kind gesture and promised to utilize the items appropriately.

The event was rounded off at THE HERITAGE (Orphanage) Home, Anthony Village where the team was received by Mrs. Chinyere Muda-Sanusi. Gift items, donations and pledges were also made to the home by the Initiative, and other top personalities including DJ Jimmy Jatt and Hon. (Mrs.) Funmilayo Tejuoso who joined the train at Heritage.

THE ENTERTAINERS’ STAR TREK 2008, A COLOURS OF INNOCENCE PROJECT, was no doubt a colourful event. According to Clarion Chukwurah, the initiator of the project, “I thank GOD for the success of the event, it is my own little way of giving back to the society and it is going to be a yearly event.”

In Dec 2008 Chief Mrs Abimbola Fashola assisted CCI with N500,000.00 in funding the feeding and purchase / donation of five (5) water dispensers and fridges to five homes and centers. And again in 2009 assisted with N250,000.00 in funding feeding for CCI Treatment schools' Teachers Upgrade.

Project 2007:

December 22, 2007, is a date that has gone down my memory lane as one of my happiest days on earth

The entire Helpline Initiative train of myself, my family, my friends and some fans pulled up at the ARROWS OF GOD ORPHANAGE, Ajah, Lagos where we spent a glorious day of boisterous fun with two hundred children and fifty adults in the 2007 Clarion Chukwurah’s HELPLINE INITIATIVE special children XMAS Party.

The 2007 party was so special because we had worked so hard to make it an upgraded very big event and because, the children were so happy, they wanted us to come right back. ARROWS OF GOD is one Orphanage that I have such a sentimental attachment to, haven been close to them since 1999 and seeing a role-model in the sacrifices of the owner who runs the home RTD LT COL D.C. OGO (MRS) but as much as we would love to return to ARROWS in december 2008, the HELPLINE INITIATIVE train will be moving to the IJAMIDO MOTHERLESS CHILDREN HOME, Isolo, Lagos. However, all Clarion Chukwurah fans in western Nigeria, we enjoin to donate CLOTHING, BOOKS and SKIN CARE items to the children at the ARROWS OF GOD ORPHANAGE, Ira Nla road, Off Dipo Omotayo street, Ajah, Lagos.
